My son has wide feet and wears size 12 shoes, so he has a penchant for boots. He thinks his feet look neater in them. So far we have stuck to the Timberland brand which worked out well. His last pair was stolen at school so I guess others recognize their good quality too.
Since my husband's hobby is photography and his focus is on land and seascapes, he has decided that he would like to get some work boots to wear on his photo shoots; this especially after he toppled in the Black River from which he had to make a quick escape since the river is known as a habitat for crocodiles.
Work Boots USA has a wide range of boots to choose from and you can shop by style or by brand and they have free ground shipping on orders over $100. My guys are leaning towards the Timberland waterproof boots. I got caught up in it too as Bates and Corcoran offer women's footwear. If you want more freebies, Danner outdoor boots and 511 tactical waterproof workboots come with free socks.
When the starter's gun goes off at the beginning of the very first heat of the 100 metres sprint at the 2008 Olympics, all eyes in my house will be peeled for a confrontation between Jamaican sensations Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt. The American, Tyson Gay of course will be put in the mix (hopefully he'll recover from his hamstring injury) to afford track and field lovers what must be the biggest anticipated showdown for a long time. That is of course if Bolt actually runs the 100, for although he qualified in the Jamaican national trials, he and his coach have not yet stated definitively whether Bolt will participate or merely focus on his true love the 200. How can the world record holder opt out of the event.? Let us hope this is a public relations manoeuvre.
These two stars provided us with a treat yesterday at the Stockholm grand prix meet. This time Asafa who was outclassed by Bolt at the trials in Jamaica in June, gave his own self confidence and that of his fans, a well needed boost as he pipped Bolt by .01 seconds. This is a race where obviously every millisecond counts!
While my favourite to win is Bolt, I have more than a passing sentimental desire to see Asafa take home a gold medal in an Olympic event, for it is well known that his scintillating perfomances are usually reserved for less distinguished meets.
While we enjoy the track and field drama, we read with horror the report of an interview with the disgraced Ben Johnson of steroid use and the lengths to which athletes will go to avoid detection.
"The men use a catheter to force the urine back up the urethra. The females refill the bladder by syringing the replacement urine through a tiny tube."
Given the amazing sub 10 times being run by these athletes it is to be expected that questions will be asked. Hopefully both the competition and the test results will prove to be clean.
My friend Carly reminded me today that this year is the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Every Human Has Rights campaign has been launched to commemorate this anniversary. Many of us take these rights for granted; but consider how different you life would be if you were not able to enjoy these rights which are the foundation of freedom, the value of which which many of us underestimate simply because we live them every day.
Click here to read the full version and here to read the plain English language version then choose one and learn more about it, write about it, discuss it, find out where it doesn't exist or is being eroded. Or perhaps you might just simply choose to link to the Every Human Has Rights campaign site which highlights specific themes which are interwoven into the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This month the focus is on the Right to Freedom from Hunger which is encompassed under article 25. We learn that before the recent sharp increase in world food prices,
"an estimated 850 million people were going hungry and 30,000 children were dying from hunger related diseases every day. Now, because of a number of factors, food prices are on the rise, hunger riots have taken place in at least 40 countries, and the world food crisis continues to grow at unprecedented rates".
Earlier this year there were reports of food riots in Haiti. Similar stories were told in Bangladesh and Mozambique.
So hunger, fear and anger resulting from skyrocketing food prices and shortages can lead to other rights like the right to life and security, being threatened or undermined.
As a part of the international community, it is in our interest to get involved, learn more and take action.
My friend has never worn glasses but now that she has reached "middle age" she has to hold the paper at arms length to see the words. Presbyopia has arrived. Personally she is lucky. I have been decked in eyewear for much too long, unfortunately more often than not I am in contacts. When I started as a teen they were the conventional hard non-gas permeable ones. Those things were tough and believe me despite the thick bulbous nature of my lens, my glasses would have suited me fine but keratoconus desn't allow me to see well enough without my contacts. Thank God technology has moved ahead so that now I can wear gas permeable ones though they are still hard.
This means that I have not been meticulous about changing my glasses since I don't really wear them that often but I have realized that not only are these somewhat dated, but they are weak. I expect to lose some ability to see but when I take out my contacts my glasses are just a little better than no glasses at all. Plus the new styles are well...so stylish. I like the new, small, modern, geometric styles.
I plan to get a new prescription and check out some I have seen online at zennioptical.com. They have quite a range and the lens are 1.57 high index. Which means they are pretty thin not bulbous! Some are a little to wild for me like this one:
But I have lots more to choose from and they start at $8.00 and all come with anti-scratch coating, full uv protection, lens edge polishing and bevelling and if for some rason you decide you don't like th glasses anymore you can just return them with the order copy and case within four weeks you will get a 50% refund.
